Ian has 32 years of experience, 15 with a bank-owned securities firm where he served as a Vice President and Financial Advisor and 17 with Raymond James. In addition to being registered as a Financial Advisor, Ian holds his insurance agent license.
Ian graduated from University of British Columbia in 1980 with a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (finance major). He has the Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute (FCSI™) designation and has completed the Chartered Financial Planner (CFP®) course, as well as the Canadian Academy of Senior Advisors course
Ian is licensed to practice in the following provinces: British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia.
Ian takes pride in his community involvement. He served as a Boy Scout leader for nine years and has provided financial support to the Cedar Boy Scouts, Community Kitchens, Amnesty International, Nanaimo United Way and the Vancouver Island University, the Unity Church refugee program, the Linley Point Gyro Park, and Eden Gardens, the Nanaimo facility that provides dementia care. Ian has also provided support to the Nanaimo Canoe and Kayak Club, both financially and as a volunteer for the B.C. Summer Games.
A long time Nanaimo resident, Ian enjoys spending time with his wife Carolyn, who spent her career as a nurse at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital, and his grown children Meaghan and Max. When not working with clients, Ian enjoys running, tennis, outrigger canoeing, skiing, and playing guitar.
In 1991 Ian was nominated by his previous firm and was awarded the recognition by the Canadian Investment Dealers Association as one of the top ten investment advisors in BC. The award criteria were client retention and community service.
Ian has qualified for the Raymond James Chairman’s and Executive Council throughout his career. The council members are nominated annually and are recognized as the top leaders in the firm across the entire country.
